DNS (Domain Name Server) Servers are essentially to everyday usage of the Internet. Think of it as an address book for the Internet. All computers on the Internet are assigned an IP Address. So when we visit Google, we don't type in 208.69.32.230 as the address. We type in google.com. DNS Servers facilitate that basic need for many Internet enabled programs. So if you tell a computer a bad DNS server to use, it can cause all types of issues. The easiest way is to make your computer Obtain a DNS Server automatically. This document will tell you exactly how to do this.

1. First, you will need to view all network connections your computer has:

If Connect To is missing from your Start menu, you can access the Network Connections by opening up Control Panel from the Start menu, and selecting Network Connections.

2. Then you will need to adjust the properties of your Local Area Connection. (You may have more than one Local Area Connection, obviously you will want to modify the one that is actually Connected. You can see the status by changing the view to Details)

3. In the scroll list, highlight Internet Protocol and hit the Properties. Select Obtain DNS server address automatically. Hit OK and then hit OK again on the original window.
